Queen Camilla and Princess Kate are currently unable to step in amid claims of Princess Anne’s “annoyance” with Prince William.

Sources close to the Princess Royal have suggested she is “annoyed” about performing more investiture ceremonies at Windsor Castle, when the Prince of Wales, 43, lives on the same estate.

The insider told the Times last weekend: “She’s still doing most of the investitures [at Windsor] even though William lives there. It annoys her.”

Despite these claims of “annoyance”, Queen Camilla and Princess Kate are unable to help the situation, as they are not currently performing investiture ceremonies.

At present, only King Charles, Prince William and Princess Anne carry out these engagements at Windsor Castle.

It is possible that the Queen and the Princess of Wales could perform investitures in the future, given that there is no firm rule against royal spouses hosting the ceremony.

For example, the Queen Mother performed over 50 investitures from the 1950s to the 1980s during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.

In addition, Prince Philip also hosted investiture ceremonies whilst his wife sat on the throne.

An investiture is where citizens of the UK and British Overseas Territories are recognised for their accomplishments and services through a list of Honours.

These lists are published twice a year by the Cabinet Office.

Around 30 investiture ceremonies are held each year to present the honorees with their awards, hosted by either Charles, William or Anne.

The Princess Royal, 74, tends to rack up the most investitures per year, which comes as no surprise given her reputation as the hardest-working.

She hosted a ceremony earlier this week on Tuesday, awarding Bryony Page, Alice Tai, Emma Finucane, Marissa Callaghan, Peter Taylor, and Sarah Lancashire, among others.

During the investiture, Princess Anne was told how women’s sport is fighting against “old grey men”.

Anne, who will turn 75 next month, presented a CBE to Dr Anita White, founder of the Women in Sport charity, the International Working Group on Women and Sport, and the Anita White Foundation.

Reflecting on her conversation with Anne, Dr White said: “We spoke about how sport had changed, how it used to be a lot of old grey men running sport and how gradually it is changing.”
