Spring is here. The birds are chirping, the sun is shining, and it’s still ridiculously hard to buy a PS5. What’s new? It has now been well over a year since its launch, yet we’re all still struggling thanks to the ongoing global semiconductor shortage sparked by the coronavirus pandemic. Sony’s Playstation 5 was released in November 2020 and it’s still a challenge to buy one today.
That said, things are certainly looking up this March after having faced a dire start to 2022 with the worst two months for drops on record in January and February. In the first few weeks alone, we’ve seen restocks from Amazon, EE, Hamleys, ShopTo, PlayStation Direct, Very, Littlewoods, AO, John Lewis & Partners (finally), Smyths Toys, Game – twice, Currys and Argos.
Our liveblog is here to get you one of Sony’s elusive next-gen consoles, as well as provide you with the details on the best games and accessories to grab alongside your new machine. If you want to find out which online retailers will be the first to restock, then keep scrolling to receive updates as they happen.

How much does the PS5 actually cost?
Perhaps not as simple a question as it sounds. Firstly, the console is often bundled with extras like games and accessories that can see the price soar to over £700. There are also two versions of the PS5, as we explained earlier, and of course there are the scalpers – those who buy the hard-to-find console at its retail price, then try to sell it on for a substantial profit.
The PS5 digital edition is priced at £349.99, while the regular PS5, which includes a disc drive, costs £449.99. The latter is the same as the Xbox series X, while the less powerful Xbox series S (which also lacks a disc drive) undercuts the digital PS5, at £249.
Many retailers, including Game, Very, Argos, ShopTo and Ace Studio, like to sell their PS5 stock in bundles. This often means spending more but getting extras like a second controller, a selection of games and other accessories. Bundles tend to be easier to get hold of, but you’ll end up spending more money than when buying the console on its own.

Where to buy the Xbox series X
OK, so the PS5 might not be in stock anywhere right now, but do you know what is? Microsoft’s Xbox series X, of course. After facing similar stock shortages to the PS5 for most of its lifecycle, the console is now abundantly available.
Still missing out on an Xbox series X and want to find out how to get one? We’ve got a guide rounding up all the places where you can buy the Xbox series X.

Could the PS5 drop at AO soon?
At the start of the month, AO dropped one Horizon Forbidden West bundle onto its website, but it sold out within literal minutes. Could it have another restock soon?
It’s possible! The retailer frequently restocks once every three to four weeks, so there is potential for another drop sometime soon, perhaps towards the end of the month.
Just to note – AO takes down all PS5 links after the console sells out, so none of the links to AO from this liveblog will work until the console is actually in stock.

Could BT PS5 stock drop soon?
The BT Shop came out on top in our February PS5 restock rankings. While the retailer only had one drop, it lasted two days, which rocketed the retailer up to pole position. It kind of highlights how bad the restock landscape was in February.
But BT is at risk of falling behind this month – the retailer hasn’t restocked at all in March and Game has dropped twice now. It last restocked consoles at 10am on 24 February, so we could see another restock this time next month.
You need an access code to buy the console from the BT Shop. If you’re a BT Broadband customer, this can be found on your MyBT portal. Just log in, scroll down to the “Your Offers” section and click on the PS5.
You can also register your interest on the BT website. You’ll receive an email containing an access code that will take you directly to the order page where you can buy a PS5 when it goes live. It’s basically the same method as above, but with less steps. You’ll need your account details for both.

PS5 disc edition vs digital
With a disc edition restock at Amazon in our sights, what even is the difference between the two consoles? Really, the only difference is that the digital edition console has no disc drive. This is (we assume) why it’s cheaper. If you don’t own physical PS4 games and you don’t have a collection of movies on Blu-ray, it could be a good idea to plump for the digital edition.
Games are downloaded from the PlayStation Store and ownership is tied to your PlayStation Network account. Unfortunately, because there’s no disc drive, you won’t be able to play any physical games you might own.
The disc edition of the PlayStation 5 costs £449, while the digital edition, without the disc drive, is cheaper and costs £359.

How to get a PS5 from Amazon when it does restock
If Amazon does drop the PS5 on 23 March, which is the date that this human stock analysing machine is currently predicting, then you’ll need to be prepped ahead of time. Pray tell.
Essentially, Amazon doesn’t let any old rando buy the PS5 from its website. No, no – the console is far too exclusive for that. You need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber or you’ll be cut out.
Thankfully, you can get a 30-day free trial and then just cancel after you buy a console. We’ll let you know if we hear more.

Where the heck is the Asda PS5 restock?
Asda hasn’t restocked the PS5 at all in 2022, with the last drop taking place on Wednesday 22 December. We don’t know what the situation is at the moment, but surely more consoles have to be on their way.
The retailer has dropped on a Thursday before, but the drops took place at around 8:30am, and there hasn’t been a Thursday restock since 13 May and 25 May. While it could restock soon, it’s unlikely that one will take place this week – it’s never dropped on a Friday before. Alas, we wait another week.

Could Amazon PS5 stock drop soon?
Two weeks ago, Amazon dropped the digital edition PS5 console onto its website. The restock lasted barely 10 minutes, as is common with digital edition drops, but the lack of a disc edition console restock suggests we could be in store for another drop very, very soon.
Amazon last dropped the disc edition console on 23 February, and it usually restocks this version of the console once every four weeks, meaning we could see another drop very soon.
Keep an eye out on Amazon (or this liveblog) every Wednesday – this is usually when the retailer likes to restock the PS5.

Who could restock the PS5 next this month?
Goooooood morning PS5 hunters and welcome back to The Independent’s PS5 restock liveblog. After a very slow start to the week, we finally saw a couple of retailers drop some hefty PS5 Horizon Forbidden West bundles at Game and Currys.

Live blog signing off
It’s the end of another day and we’re pleased to see those console bundles that landed at Currys this morning are still available. The same can’t be said for a wide range of bundles – and individual consoles, for the first time in a while – dropped by Game today. They have all sold out now, but we hope to see more again soon.
As ever, we’ll be back tomorrow to bring you the latest PS5 restocking news.
