People’s mid-flight routines are getting more elaborate – but one woman has divided opinion after making herself an iced matcha latte mid-air.
Australian content creator Riley Hemson spurred the discussion after posting a video of her travel buddy, Jaz Hand, who was mixing a mysterious green beverage with a mini whisker.
‘I can’t believe she’s doing this on the plane,’ she wrote incredulously with her hand over her mouth.
Both women appear to be sitting in first class, with Jaz pulling out a Blank Street plastic cup and matcha powder to make her drink.
She starts by sieving the powder into a bowl before then placing it into a glass, adding water and giving it a whisk.
Separately, she placed a handful of ice cubes in a plastic cup and poured in milk as well as the matcha mix.
Riley posted a second video, showing her sipping from her own matcha that Jaz had made her, assuring viewers she enjoyed it – despite her expression.
‘I’ve seen it all truly,’ Riley captioned the clip.

Matcha powder is a type of finely ground green tea.
The clip divided viewers, many oscillating between confusion and praise for making herself comfortable on the flight.
‘Socially unacceptable,’ one user declared.
‘It’s true commitment to the matcha addiction,’ another joked.
‘I once sat next to someone who whipped out a loaf of bread a jar of peanut butter and a jar of jam and proceeded to make sandwiches. good times,’ someone else shared.
‘Hey so this is insane… And I am 110 per cent here for it and in full support. ICONIC behavior,’ added another.
Whipping up an iced matcha isn’t the craziest thing that’s been made on an plane.
In September, an influencer was slammed by people with gluten allergies after filming herself making a sourdough loaf on a long haul flight from the US to Spain.

Maria Baradell, who is originally from Venezuela but now living in Dallas, Texas, was flying to the European country via Chicago to visit her sister.
She said she wanted to surprise her sibling with a fresh loaf of bread, as her social media is centered around baking dough.
In Maria’s video, she films herself at the airport before boarding her flight, and revealed that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) had to ‘check her bag’ before going through security as she had some ‘suspicious stuff’ packed.
This included several bags of powder, including flour and sourdough starter, which is made from yeast.
Maria then films herself adding water to a bowl, sourdough starter – a living culture of wild yeasts and bacteria – along with flour and salt.
She then mixed the bread around before covering it with a towel in the hope that the dough would proof.
Some time later, Maria then got her dough again and started folding it before allowing it to sit during the bulk fermentation process.
Maria then made it to her sister’s house, where the sourdough continued to cold prove for 20 hours.
The baker then scored it before baking it in her oven and she was very pleased with the results.
Maria wrote: ‘It was amazing, made with love!’
However, viewers of the clip were far from impressed, with many commenting that her decision to make bread onboard was not considerate to those with allergies.
