Netflix has announced that it will raise prices in the US after a rise in subscribers ahead of releasing Meghan Markle’s new cooking series.
The streaming platform said it will also increase subscription costs in Canada, Argentina and Portugal.
The announcement comes following news that Meghan’s new lifestyle and cookery show will be postponed due to wildfires in California, near where the show is filmed.
‘With Love, Meghan’ was originally set to be released on January 15, two weeks after the Duchess of Sussex released the trailer on her Instagram.

The project will now be available for Netflix viewers to watch on March 4.
In a statement released on Sunday, Meghan said: “I’m thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California.”
In the US, prices will increase across most subscription plans, including the standard subscription with no adverts, which will now cost £14.60 a month, up from £12.57.
Its membership with adverts will also rise by one dollar to nearly £6.50.
UK subscribers will not be affected by the price changes, with a spokesperson for Netflix responding that there was “nothing to share right now”, according to the BBC.
In response to the price hikes, furious customers have vowed to boycott the streamer, which could impact Meghan’s US audience figures.
One X user wrote: “Recently took out ad-free @Netflix and now I’m going to cancel it because of yet another price increase.”
Another user said: “I’m seriously considering cancelling my @netflix subscription these constant price hikes are getting out of hand they would rather increase prices then to lose a nickel of profit”.
The Duchess of Sussex is keen to impress Netflix as her £80 million five-year deal with the platform is set to expire later this year.
In a statement released alongside the show’s trailer, Meghan said: “I have been so excited to share this with you!
“I hope you love the show as much as I loved making it.”
She thanked her “amazing crew” and “the team @netflix”, stating she was beyond grateful for the support.
