Heartbreaking courtroom footage shows the moment a hysterical mother confronted her boyfriend for allegedly killing her special-needs daughter just after Christmas.
Addison Carr, 4, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, died on December 26, 2024 at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Little Addison was admitted to the hospital on December 22 and staff members requested that police investigate the situation the following day.
Her cause of death was ruled blunt force trauma and homicide, according to the coroner’s office.
Her mother’s boyfriend, Tyler Ternberg, was arrested and charged with homicide by child abuse, according to Fox Carolina.
Ternberg, 28, was taken into custody on Thursday after investigators alleged he caused ‘non-accidental trauma’ to the disabled child while he was watching her.
During a Friday court hearing – during which the accused killer was denied bond – Addison’s devastated mother, Ashley Caris, scolded Ternberg.
‘You didn’t have to hurt my baby,’ she said through tears. ‘She was my entire world.

‘Why would you do something like this to her? I hate you, Tyler. I hate you so much.’
Addison’s father, Stanley Carr, told Fox Carolina that he was ‘sad and mad at the same time, it comes and goes.’
‘I don’t know how somebody could do this to somebody like Addy,’ he said.
Carr told the outlet that Addison had a lack of oxygen at birth and had a feeding tube and limited movement.
‘My biggest thing is just remembering that smile from her all the time.’ Carr added. ‘She was just a sweetheart and a joy to be around.’
Since Ternberg’s arrest, Carr has been persistent and vocal about getting ‘justice’ for his child.
He has posted a series of Facebook messages about the gut-wrenching situation.
In a post from Friday morning before the bond hearing, he addressed Addison directly, writing: ‘Daddy is gonna make sure all involved will be charged for you Addison I love you and miss you will all my heart babygirl.’
Addison’s tragic death came about a week after a sixth person was charged in connection to the death of a seven-year-old disabled boy who died weighing just seven pounds.
On Christmas Day in 2023, Deonte Atwell was found horrifically malnourished and with gaping bedsore wounds at his Fort Lauderdale, Florida home.
He should have been receiving constant care due to his thoracic spina bifida and hydrocephalus conditions, but was instead brutally neglected.
His mother, Michelle Doe, 37, and his brother, Tyreck Irvin, 21, were arrested and charged with first-degree murder and child abuse.

The boy’s grandfather, James Graham, 70, and later his uncle, Jeremy Graham, were charged with aggravated manslaughter and child abuse.
The owner of the home nursing company Mirlande Moltimer Ameda, 47, and Atwell’s caregiver, Cassandre Lassegue, 33 are also facing charges.
Police discovered the child after responding to a report of a medical emergency. In court, prosecutors said the boy was painfully thin and had bones sticking out of his skin when he was discovered.
Fort Lauderdale Police Det. Jacqueline Sanchez estimated that he could have been suffering for six months to a year.
