Sky TV’s hit comedy-drama Brassic is set to end after seven series, despite being the network’s most successful comedy to date.
The show, which stars Michelle Keegan and Joe Gilgun, is currently filming its final season.
The series has garnered a loyal fanbase since its debut in 2019, following the adventures of a group of cash-strapped friends in the fictional northern village of Hawley.
The announcement comes as Keegan, who plays Erin in the series, is expecting her first child.
Co-creator and writer Danny Brocklehurst reflected on the decision to end the series, saying: “When Joe Gilgun and I sat down to create Brassic, we couldn’t have imagined, in our wildest dreams, that we would do seven series and gather such a loyal and loving fan base.”
“It’s been a complete joy to create this eccentric world, but all good things must come to an end, and we want to stop while we are still riding high. Maybe they can finally give us that BAFTA,” he added.
A Sky spokesperson praised the show’s impact, stating: “Fans very quickly became attached to this dynamic group of friends, as they found unconventional ways to win at life in northern suburbia.”
“We would like to thank Joe Gilgun, Danny Brocklehurst and the whole cast and crew – past and present – for bringing us all a truly iconic series, which we’ve loved for its special mix of hilarity and heart,” the spokesperson added.
Production of the final series is already underway, with Keegan recently sharing behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram from the snowy set.
The actress was spotted filming scenes while concealing her baby bump beneath a crew coat, maintaining her character Erin’s signature hairstyle.

Fans have expressed their disappointment on social media, with one writing: “Devastated about #Brassic being cancelled… a hell of a show.”
Another fan praised the series as “one of the best British shows of this century.”
The final series of Brassic will air later this year on Sky and streaming service NOW.
The show follows Keegan’s character Erin, a young mum whose wild teenage years led to an unplanned pregnancy with Vinnie O’Neill, played by Gilgun, who leads the gang.
Returning cast members include Ryan Sampson as Tommo, Aaron Heffernan as Ashley, Parth Thakerar as JJ, Joanna Higson as Sugar, and Steve Evets as Jim.
All previous seasons are currently available to stream via Sky Max, NOW, and the first four series on Netflix.
The actress, 37, shared the happy news that she was expecting her first child with her husband Mark Wright, 38, in December.
Sharing a sweet image of her bump and Wright on Instagram, she captioned the post: “2025 is going to be a special one for us…” (sic)
