A man has been seriously injured in a suspected robbery, police have said.
The 48-year-old, attacked by two men on Nicolas Road in Chorlton shortly before 20:00 GMT on Sunday, remained in hospital, said Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
A 46-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assault remained in custody for questioning, a police spokesperson said.
GMP asked anyone who witnessed the incident, or who lives nearby and has relevant dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell footage, to contact them.
Det Insp Shauna Hayden said it was a “shocking incident that has left a man with serious injuries in hospital”.
She added: “While our work so far has secured an arrest, we are now appealing for anyone with any relevant information to please come forward.
“If you saw anything or heard something from around the time of the incident, I would urge you to get in touch, as your assistance could be vital to getting the answers the victim deserves.”
A cordon was erected on Nicolas Road and adjoining Oswald Road following the incident, while investigating officers also examined a nearby property.
GMP said extra officers would be in the area over coming days “to provide reassurance” to local residents.
