Lord Hermer has been blasted as an “authoritarian control freak” after demanding an apology from Nigel Farage over his alleged antisemitic remarks as a schoolboy.

The Attorney General called on the Reform chief to say sorry after claiming that Mr Farage had “deeply hurt” many people.

Lord Hermer, who is also one of the top-ranking Jewish Government ministers in Sir Keir Starmer’s Cabinet, spoke out after The Guardian alleged that Mr Farage used antisemitic language as a teenager at Dulwich College.

Peter Ettedgui was one of those who accused Mr Farage, as a 13-year-old, of making comments such as “Hitler was right” or “gas them”. Last week, the Reform leader categorically denied the claims.

The Reform UK leader was addressing allegations about his conduct as a 13-year-old schoolboy.

“I can tell you categorically that I did not say the things that have been published in the Guardian aged 13, nearly 50 years ago,” he said in a statement shared with GB News.

Speaking to Martin Daubney on GB News, barrister and writer Steven Barrett fumed, declaring that Lord Hermer has “disgraced” his office.

“He’s presumed guilt. In this country, we have a presumption of innocence. You are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

“The Attorney General who should uphold that principle in all of our noble principles of justice, has presumed Nigel Farage is guilty.

“Then he called for punishment. That that is that is an utter betrayal of everything that our country stands for, everything in our history of justice. And it goes hand in hand with the removal of trial by jury. It just does.”

The GB News guest called on Lord Hermer and David Lammy to resign from their posts

Justice Secretary David Lammy announced today that jury trials for sentences of less than three years will be scrapped to accelerate Labour’s attempt to tackle the court backlog.

“These people, authoritarian left wingers – and they are always authoritarian left wingers who take away the right to trial by jury in human societies – these people start from a presumption of guilt for anybody they don’t like.

“They don’t like Nigel Farage, so they are presuming him guilty,” Mr Barrett added.

“With this, they show us what they are disgraceful, authoritarian control freaks. And, frankly, I cannot wait for this Government to fall.”

“To the Lord Chancellor and the Attorney General disgrace their offices in a single day to to let down His Majesty the King and to let down us,” the guest raged.

“It’s just these people are showing you who they are.

“These are desperately controlling, nasty little people. I mean, they’re not terribly brave or strong. I call this a dictatorship, a tyranny of weak men. They have disgraced their offices.”

Mr Barrett further called on both Mr Lammy and Lord Hermer to resign.

Mr Barrett is not alone in his scathing criticism of Mr Lammy, with the Shadow Justice Secretary hurling damning indictments of the Deputy Prime Minister’s move to scrap juries across the despatch box.

Mr Jenrick gave a ferocious performance in the House of Commons on Tuesday, with the Shadow Justice Secretary bestowing a new nickname on the Deputy Prime Minister: “Lammy Dodger”.

Mr Jenrick raged: “His past is catching up with him, because the best opponent of the Justice Secretary’s plans to curb jury trials is the Justice Secretary himself.

“In 2020 he said, ‘Criminal trials without juries are a bad idea. You do not fix the backlog with trials that are widely perceived as unfair’ In 2017, in his report into prejudice in the criminal justice system, he found juries, and I quote, ‘act as a filter for prejudice’.

“But now he’s become Justice Secretary, he’s scrapping the very institution he once lauded. Which is it?

“Will the real David Lammy please stand up!”
