Another Labour U-turn could be on the cards amid rebel MPs throwing “hissy fits” over Shabana Mahmood’s asylum crackdown, a migration expert has told GB News.

Research director for the Migrant Control Center Rob Bates has forecast a looming Labour backtrack over the “sweeping” asylum reforms after a number of disgruntled MPs raised their heads above the parapet.

Speaking to GB News stars Andrew Pierce and Miriam Cates, he warned that the asylum plans “would require a lot of amendments”.

“This is why we’ve seen already nine Labour MPs kicking up a right stink, throwing hissy fits about this. They really aren’t actually taking the Parliamentary Labour Party with them, it seems.

“And you know, we remember Keir Starmer last year talking about the ‘island of strangers’.

“I do wonder when Mahmood is talking about sort of illegal immigration tearing the country apart, how long it will be before we start seeing a U-turn, and some of the big headline measures actually really fall apart under close scrutiny.”
