King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark have enjoyed a weekend getaway in Madrid with their family ahead of Christmas.
It follows high profile affair rumours that rocked the Danish Royal institution in 2023 when King Frederik was pictured alongside Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova in the Spanish capital.
The Danish Royal Family denied all affair rumours and displayed a united front amid the speculation.
King Frederik and Queen Mary appeared to put the drama behind them, reportedly jetting off to Madrid alongside their four children Christian, 19, Isabella, 17, and 13-year-old twins Vincent and Josephine.
The family are said to have stayed at the Hotel Santo Mauro for their private mini break, accompanied by their security team.
The Telegraph named the former palace of the Duke of Santo Mauro, now part of the Marriott’s Luxury Collection, as the “best luxury boutique hotel in Madrid” in March 2024 due to its stunning gardens and unique rooms.
Located in the Golden Triangle of Art, the Prado, the Thyssen and the Reina Sofia museums, the five-star establishment is known to be popular with celebrities who want to keep a low profile.
Frederik and Mary were apparently spotted walking along Marqués del Riscal Street, which is home to several luxury goods stores, during their stay.
They were said to be joined by their oldest son, Crown Prince Christian, who recently returned from to Denmark in December following a trip to East Africa during his gap year.
In September, it was announced that the 19-year-old would travel to East Africa for part of his gap year and return to Denmark in December.
In October last year King Frederik embarked on a solo visit to the European nation where he met with Genoveva, while Queen Mary was away on a business trip in New York.
The royal reportedly had a private dinner with the TV personality before he visited her apartment for two hours as reported by a Spanish publication.

A statement from the Mexican socialite said: “I categorically deny the statements that suggest a romantic relationship between Prince Frederik and me.”
The royals initially remained silent about the allegations before releasing a short statement.
A palace spokesman told Danish publication B.T. that they “do not comment on rumours or insinuations”.
