King Charles and Prince Edward were left shocked after witnessing a carriage crash during the Royal Windsor Horse Show on Saturday.

The monarch, 76, and his brother, 61, were attending the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

The annual horse show, beloved of their late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, has been held on the grounds of Windsor Castle since 1943. Elizabeth had been a regular attendee of the event until her last appearance in 2022, just months before her death.

However, carnage ensued as the Charles and Edward were watching the cross-country race at Windsor Castle and a competitor’s carriage collided with a gatepost.

The incident occurred as the driver attempted to speed through part of the obstacle course.

Both royal brothers appeared visibly concerned as they observed the collision unfold before them.

An onlooker described the dramatic moment: “As one of the competitors came round on the obstacle course, the back of the carriage crashed into a 6ft-high gatepost that they were trying to drive through.”

“They took it too tight and the back literally clattered into it. The King pointed to it and Edward put his hand to his face, before explaining why it had happened,” the witness added.

The moment briefly disturbed what appeared to be a relaxed afternoon for the King.

He cut a relaxed figure with a grey jacket matched with a blue and green striped tie.

Completing the outfit was his personalised Royal Windsor Horse Show lapel pin, embossed with “HM the King,” a thistle, and a red check pocket square.

Charles strolled alongside his brother as they spoke to show attendees, using what appeared to be a walking stick.

Edward opted for a swish country-style jacket and tie bearing the same colours and pattern as his older brother.
