King Charles has been left saddened by Prince Harry’s latest claim that aides are attempting to sabotage his reconciliation with his father.

The Duke of Sussex and the monarch met face-to-face for the first time in over a year and a half earlier this month in what was seen as a major development in rebuilding their relationship.

Prince Harry stepped down as a working member of the Royal Family in 2020 and has launched several high-profile public attacks on the Royal Family over the last five years.

The talks held between King Charles and his youngest son at Clarence House appeared to signal that a feud between the Duke of Sussex and the Royal Family was coming to an end.

However, a spokesperson for Prince Harry stated on Saturday that recent quotes from royal insiders indicate some are “intent on sabotaging any reconciliation between father and son.”

King Charles is said to have been left “saddened” by that latest statement from the Duke of Sussex’s spokesperson and feels it is “counterproductive”.

A Buckingham Palace source told The Telegraph: “It’s very sad, especially because everyone has been working hard behind the scenes to make the private relationship work.”

It comes as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are pushing for a new relationship with the Royal Family that would ease their security fears in the UK, according to a source.

King Charles has made clear to his youngest son that he can not have a part-time role in the Royal Family; however, the prince is said to want to strike a fresh agreement with the monarch.

A source told the Mail that Harry and Meghan want “friendly relations with the King and to be in a position to move between Britain and the States regularly with no fears for their security.”

The Duke of Sussex has made multiple solo appearances in England over the past two years, but he has previously stated that he does not feel safe bringing his family to the UK.

However, the royal has outlined in an interview this month that Archie and Lilibet’s return to the UK in closer than ever.

Harry’s trip to the UK this month was the first time the Duke of Sussex had returned since suffering a crushing court defeat in May 2025.

Prince Harry told the Guardian regarding the prospect of bringing his children to the country of his birth: “I would. This week has definitely brought that closer.”

Harry’s trip to the UK this month was the first time the Duke of Sussex had returned since suffering a crushing court defeat in May 2025.

It ended the royal’s hiatus from the UK, which had gone on for four months since he lost his legal battle for taxpayer-funded armed police protection.

The ruling meant that armed police bodyguards, paid for by the British taxpayer, will not be automatically reinstated for Harry, Meghan and their two children when in the UK.
