Kensington Palace has confirmed that Prince George will attend Eton College from this September, ending years of speculation over where the future king would continue his education after leaving Lambrook School.
A spokesman told GB News: “Kensington Palace can confirm that Prince George will attend Eton College from this September.”
The decision places the 12-year-old prince at one of the most famous schools in the country, and notably the same institution attended by his father, the Prince of Wales, and his uncle, Prince Harry.
Prince William entered Eton in 1995, following in the footsteps of generations of aristocracy and royalty.
He studied there until 2000, developing friendships and routines that would later shape his approach to public life.
Prince Harry also attended Eton, joining his brother in 1998 and remaining there until 2003.
Their time at the school marked a significant chapter in modern royal education, with both princes experiencing boarding school life under intense media scrutiny following the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.

The young prince, second in line to the throne, has so far been educated at Lambrook School in Berkshire alongside his siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Charlotte, 11, and Louis, eight, will remain at Lambrook for the time being.
The Waleses have so far taken a more flexible approach to schooling than previous generations, prioritising stability and family life following their relocation to Forest Lodge in 2025.
Eton College, founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, has long been associated with Britain’s elite.

Annual fees currently exceed £60,000, and entry is highly competitive, with boys typically registered years in advance.
The decision will inevitably draw comparisons with other members of the Royal Family and their educational choices.

Royal commentators had long debated whether Prince George would follow his father to Eton or choose a co-educational boarding school instead.
Choosing the latter would have ensured George and Charlotte could attend school together.
Alternatives frequently discussed included Marlborough College, where the Princess of Wales was educated, as well as other leading independent schools such as Oundle and St Edward’s.
Prince George is expected to begin his studies shortly after the end of the summer holidays in 2026.
