Country star Kasey Chambers has reunited with her ex-husband Shane Nicholson for the aptly named new single The Divorce Song.
The couple split in 2013 after eight years of marriage, and the Kasey revealed that she thought the opportunity to recorded with Shane would never arise again.
In a statement about the track, Kasey revealed that while a surprising turn of events, the collaboration had turned out to be one of her proudest achievements.
‘Writing The Divorce Song with my ex-husband Shane Nicholson and then recording it together as a duet is one of my favourite musical moments of my career and even more, one of my proudest family moments, she said.
‘Honestly, when our marriage ended, I never thought Shane and I would ever write another song together again.
Kasey added: ‘I guess if you work hard enough on making a divorce really work, then anything can happen.’

Shane echoed his ex-wife’s sentiment adding: ‘For a long while, writing and recording together again wasn’t looking likely for Kasey and I.
‘The Divorce Song seems like the perfect way to revisit what we always did best together.’
The track features on Kasey’s latest album Backbone, which was released in October 2024.
The rack is augmented by a sepia-toned clip that shows the couple in a church and decked out in wedding regalia.
It also features the opening lines: ‘We said ’til death do us part, but death didn’t come quick enough. Maybe we did it all wrong, kinda f***ed everything up.’
No strangers to musical collaboration, the pair have previously released two albums together – 2008’s chart topping Rattlin’ Bones and 2012’s prophetic follow-up Wreck and Ruin.
The Daily Telegraph reported that the couple still work hard at maintaining an amicable relationship.
Referencing a passage from Kasey’s new book Don’t Be A D***head, it revealed that Kasey even babysits Shane’s baby that he welcomed with partner Emma in 2022.

The couple share two children 17-year-old son Arlo and 13-year-old daughter Poet, while Kasey has another child, Talon, 22, who she shares with ex Cori Hooper.
Cori and Kasey dated for four years, before splitting in 2004.
She has since moved on with new partner Brandon Dodd, with the pair’s relationship beginning seven years ago.
Kasey and Brandon, who is 19 years younger, have known each other for several years. The guitarist has performed alongside her for nine years.
Speaking of their relationship, the singer noted in her book that their 19-year age gap doesn’t bother her.
‘Despite our age gap leaning the other way, Brando was generally way more mature than me most of the time,’ she wrote.
‘Much more traditional than me. He had even decided not to own a smartphone anymore, and went back to an old flip-top phone so he wasn’t living his life through a screen.’
She also believes the lovebirds are a ‘match made in heaven’ and started dating ‘six or seven years ago’.
‘You can probably even tell when we play together that that really does still feel like the grounding to our relationship,’ she told The Australian.
‘We still love sitting around playing together. Sitting around a campfire, he’ll get the guitar out, I’ll be cooking, and we’ll sing together. That’s a perfect love for me.’
The lauded songwriter is up for four Golden Guitar Awards which will be announced on January 25.
She is up for Heritage Song of the Year, Song of the Year, Video of the Year, and Single of the Year.
