Makeup is great for adding a touch of colour to your face, accentuating your favourite features and even hiding wrinkles.
Speaking exclusively to GB News, a makeup expert shared the step that is vital before applying your beauty products.
Women should not skip primer before they apply their makeup, according to lash specialists and founder of iBEAUTY CODE Beauty Studio and Academy Nadia Lopel.
She explained: “The key to makeup that gives a younger look is the technique as well as the right products that emphasise and don’t hide.
Applying primer is the best way to start your anti-ageing makeup routine

“A hydrating primer is always the first step. It’s all a process of having a nice canvas that plumps up the skin a little to minimise the appearance of fine lines and dry patches.”
Wrinkles and fine lines are less visible on skin that is well-hydrated, so try to find a moisturising primer.
The next step is to apply a suitable foundation for your skin type. If anti-ageing is your end goal, Nadia suggested a light coverage product.
She said: “For foundation, I really stay away from the thicker, more matte and super coverage products because they just settle into the lines and emphasise texture.
“Rather, I would go for something that’s light to medium coverage and dewy. This gives that healthy, radiant finish, which mimics youthful skin.”
The next step for coverage is using concealer. Like with foundation, a thick concealer could work against the look you want.
The makeup pro said: “When it comes to concealing the eye area you shouldn’t go for something really thick or super drying.
“Something lighter and illuminative brightens up the eye area without creasing. I apply very little and blend with a damp beauty sponge for the most natural effect.”
Don’t apply products that are too thick or heavy, the expert suggested

This comes as a doctor shared why it could be best to have two types of concealer in your makeup bag.
Dr Vanita Rattan suggested thicker concealers to cover blemishes but agreed that a lightweight product should be used for under the eyes.
She said: “A lightweight concealer rich in ceramides and peptides can be used to hydrate and brighten the under eye, whereas a full coverage concealer is better to camouflage spots.
“As we age, the skin under the eyes becomes thinner and drier due to reduced collagen production, making it more prone to fine lines and dehydration.”
