Feeling uninspired by your current locks? A fresh cut can help boost confidence and create an overall more youthful look.
Speaking to GB News, a hairstylist explained two things to look for in every anti-ageing hairstyle.
Owner of Salon Le Volume, Kristina Bynum, spoke to GB News on the hair rules that will create a timeless look.
She said: “I’ve been working behind the chair for over 20 years and own a hair salon, and if there is one thing I can say is that younger hair has very little to do with chasing trends and more to do with personalised styles.”
The stylist recommended face-framing layers or curtain bangs

GETTYBlunt, severe cuts can accentuate signs of ageing, so avoiding these is her first tip for creating a more youthful look.
Bynum said: “Softness changes everything. As we age our features naturally lose some of their firmness.
“So when a haircut is too blunt or harsh, especially around the face, it can exaggerate that instead of balancing it.
“Soft face-framing layers, curtain bangs, or even just breaking up the corners of a blunt cut can instantly create movement and take years off.”
Curtain bangs or a long sweeping fringe will not only create softness, but can be styled to hide fine lines and wrinkles around the forehead.
The experts’ second tip is to avoid overly-styled hairdos. Stiff quiffs, excessive backcombing, or lashings of hairspray can quickly date a look.
Bynum said: “Secondly, movement is what creates youthful hair. Hair that moves and that doesn’t look ‘set’ is what helps a style look youthful.
“Overly structured cuts and styles that feel stiff can quickly date someone, even if the haircut itself isn’t technically old.
Create softness and movement in your hair for a more youthful appearance

Looking for more youthful hair tips? The expert suggested looking for colours that reflect light, as these are “the most youthful”.
She added: “Flat, one-dimensional colour, especially darker shades, can absorb light and make your overall look dull. Natural hair colour has variation within it. It catches the light differently in different areas.”
