Another day another very public display of togetherness for Hollywood’s least likely couple, Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner.
Reunited in Paris on Wednesday amid Chalamet’s ongoing publicity tour for his Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, Jenner deployed her trademark pout to full effect and clung to her boyfriend’s arm as they braved the thicket of paparazzi who just happened to be on hand to memorialize the ‘romantic’ evening.
It’s two weeks since the couple was last seen together. Then Jenner seemed to be working overtime to drum up some chemistry with her leading man during another high-profile date night at the Golden Globes.
Sheathed in chainmail Versace and basking in Chalamet’s Oscar buzz, Jenner puckered up to his puny tache as if utterly besotted by his dead-eyed charms.
Passion? I’m not convinced. In fact, the Golden Globe for best showmance should surely go to Chalamet and Jenner.
Yes, the star of Dune and Wonka may be lauded as the actor of his generation, but Chalamet is less convincing as the reality queen/make up mogul’s other half.

Neither this week’s Parisian outing nor their appearance together at the Golden Globes, where Chalamet was nominated for Best Actor for his role as Dylan, have done much to dispel the fauxmance rumours dogging their odd union.
Snapping photos of Chalamet on a Y2K-era digital camera – how quaint – and cupping his face, Jenner’s dialed-up PDAs at the Globes all felt as flat as Zoe Saldana’s syrupy acceptance speech. The yellow tail jalapenos served up on the Michelin menu from Nobu probably generated more heat.
In truth, speculation over the relationship has long been rife. The couple’s appearances have been strangely few and far between since they were first linked in April 2023.
Rarely seen on casual coffee runs or early morning departures from each other’s homes, for the most part their relationship appears to consist of choreographed caresses at very public events from the US Open Tennis to Beyonce’s Renaissance concert.
Certainly the 29-year-old actor’s devoted fanbase isn’t buying into the love story. For a start ‘Timmy’ is quite a departure from the roll call of rappers Jenner, 27, has previously dated including Travis Scott, the father of her two kids.
Rooted in reality TV, sex tapes and the steady churn of high-profile hook-ups, the house of Kardashian/Jenner seems so at odds with the French-speaking thespian who apparently craves privacy and is prone to deep, philosophical musings.
‘You could be the master of your fate, you could be the captain of your soul,’ he replied when asked if he believes in destiny and fate during a press junket interview for Dune with co-star Zendaya.
‘But you have to realize that life is coming from you and not at you, and that takes time.’

For many, whether it’s the real deal or PR fiction, Chalamet being the mom-of-two’s plus one represents a tacky sell out. Surely his dramas should be on the big screen with acclaimed directors and nowhere near the manufactured dross of a Kardashian reality show.
Let’s face it, getting Instagram plugs from Kylie’s ‘momager’ Kris when he was set to host Saturday Night Live just isn’t a good look.
This may seem a little harsh on Jenner, but her self-obsession grates.
Like her sisters Kim and Kendall, the ‘self-made’ billionaire’s day job of lip kits and clothing lines still seems a side-show to the private life she has long commoditized despite her grandiose assertions.
‘I’m a young woman and I don’t depend on a man or anybody else,’ she declared in an interview with Glamour magazine back in 2016.
‘I make my own money and start my own businesses, and I feel like I’m an inspiration for a lot of young girls who want to stand on their own.’
Yet from a woman born into family wealth and forever hanging off the arm of rich celebrity men it all rings just a little bit hollow.

As with the rest of her clan, she’s fully aware of the currency of coupledom and accustomed to a fevered fanbase that can’t get enough of the combined star power amongst the glossy posse.
Depressing as it might be, we all know it can be a fast track to relevance and attention.
How it will all play out for Jenner and Chalamet remains to be seen.
She will already be thinking of what to wear to the Oscars in March, whether they should pose together on the red carpet, practicing her best loved-up gaze in case he wins and she’s name-checked in his speech.
At least they’ve got a bit of time to plan it – if they can manage another date night before then.
