Most people understand the importance of washing their hair regularly. However, many fail to employ the proper techniques and as a result, cause unnecessary damage.
Hair expert at Beauty Club London Moe Harb spoke exclusively to GB News about the “big mistake” many women make when carrying out this key hair care task.
Moe said: “How often you wash your hair plays a big role in your hair’s health. Washing too frequently with water that is too hot is a big mistake.
“Hot water might feel great in the shower, but it can strip your scalp of natural oils, leading to dullness, dryness and frizz.”

The expert weighed in on the best temperatures for sensational strands, advising women to use both warm and cool water.
He explained: “Start with warm water to open the cuticles and help your shampoo penetrate, then finish with a cool rinse to seal those cuticles back up.
“This creates smoother hair that reflects light better, giving it that glossy, healthy sheen.”
Women were advised to concentrate their shampoo on their roots, as this is “where oil and dirt accumulates”.
They should then slowly work the shampoo through their hair and let it “naturally run down the length as they rinse”.
Moe stressed the importance of being gentle with your locks, explaining that “scrubbing the ends vigorously can cause breakage and split ends”.
He said: “Many women do not realise that a proper scalp massage encourages healthy hair growth. Use the pads of your fingers – not your nails – and massage in small, circular motions.
“This helps increase blood circulation and flow, helps break down product buildup, and keeps your scalp in prime condition to support new growth. A healthy scalp paves the way for healthy hair.”
When it comes to conditioner, using a “gentle, hydrating” product designed to moisturise and protect the hair is the way to go.
The expert advised: “Apply it mostly on your mid-lengths and ends. The roots have enough natural oils, so overloading them with conditioner can weigh your hair down or even lead to buildup.”

Be mindful of how you dry your hair too, as “vigorous towel rubbing can create friction, tangles and breakage”.
Moe said: “Gently pat your hair with a soft towel to minimise damage while removing excess water.”
