Households are being reminded supermarket opening times over the Christmas and New Year’s period will be different than usual with customers having less time to pick up last minute shopping.

Tesco, Sainsbury’s Aldi, Lidl and Asda are among the major supermarket chains which have confirmed their opening times for the 2025 festive season. How will it affect your Christmas shop?

As part of Park Christmas Savings’ “Big Christmas Survey 2025”, which polled 5,000 consumers during December on their holiday spending habits, 51 per cent of households admitted to setting stricter Christmas budgets this year.

Some two-thirds of those surveyed revealed they will have to heavily rely on last-minute supermarket deals to afford Christmas this year but changing store opening times could impact their ability to secure these savings.

The savings platform noted that UK supermarkets have already begun slashing prices on key Christmas items to entice consumers to the shelves before the big day next week.

Raisin UK’s study compared the cost of essential Christmas dinner items across nine of the UK’s leading supermarkets. The festive feast includes essentials, such as turkey, roast potatoes, stuffing, gravy, Brussels sprouts, carrots, pigs in blankets, parsnips, cranberry sauce, and Yorkshire puddings.

Notably, the latest food price inflation rate came in at 4.2 per cent with Raisin’s survey indicating that only 35 per cent of adults feel in control of their personal finances.
