While everyone thought Wayne, 39, and Coleen, 38, reunited a long five days after she touched down in the UK, Coleen admitted the retired footballer actually took a day off from work to surprise her.
At the launch of her new wellness range Coleen Rooney x Applied Nutrition on Thursday, Coleen exclusively shared with MailOnline that Wayne was actually waiting for her at their Cheshire home when she got in and left at 5am the next day.
Even though it was a crucial week for Wayne – who was at the time frantically fighting to save his job as Plymouth manager – he made sure to be there for Coleen.
The former Manchester United player was sacked by Plymouth Argyle after only 25 matches in charge last December after the club fell to the bottom of the Championship.
Coleen said: ‘It was just a quick hello and well done because he was in Plymouth at the time so he had that day off which was nice but he literally came home, we had a catch up and obviously the boys were all in the mix and then he left at like 5 the next morning to go back.

‘But over Christmas we done a few things and it was nice because I had time then to meet up with friends and we went out as couples.’
Admitting their long-distance relationship has sometimes been ‘difficult’ over the years, Wayne made sure to pull out all of the stops for his beloved wife to show his love and support.
Revealing the secret to their happy marriage, Coleen said they make sure to go on date nights and always have a laugh.
Coleen added: ‘We have a laugh and I do think you’ve got to make time for each other.
‘It’s been difficult over the years because we’ve lived away from each other and stuff but we always try and do a date night so it’s been nice having him back and nice him coming here to support and be here.’
Speaking about her exciting new wellness range, Coleen said: ‘I’ve always took it anyway.
‘The exciting thing for me was there has been stuff that I’ve taken and I’ve not enjoyed taking it because I haven’t liked the taste or the flavor, so for me I wanted to change that.
‘I wanted nice flavors, I wanted it to be easy, which is why we’ve done the stick packs so that everyone can enjoy it. But its something that I’ve always done, consistency is the key, you’ve got to keep taking it because then you will see the improvements.

A source told MailOnline: ‘Coleen has always been passionate about her health, and her partnership with Applied Nutrition reflects that dedication.
‘While the brand has grown into a global powerhouse, its roots in Liverpool have made this collaboration special and very important to her.’

In December, Coleen finished as runner-up in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, after McFly’s Danny Jones became King Of The Jungle.

Speaking to Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, Coleen said: ‘Obviously people started asking me the question and I just raised my eyebrows. You know, I can’t say anything.
‘But the boys, I told the older ones, and they were fine with it, but the younger ones overheard, we’ve watched it as a family for years and the younger ones dip in and out because it’s late at night but then they were excited once they knew I was actually going in.

Her outing comes after Coleen also got candid about the huge toll her legal battle with arch nemesis Rebekah Vardy had in 2022.
The WAGs famously went up against each other in a £1.8 million court case – dubbed the ‘Wagatha Christie’ trial – after Coleen accused Rebekah’s Instagram account of leaking ‘false stories’ about her private life to the press back in 2019.
Rebekah, 42, denied the allegations and sued Coleen for libel, but the case found in Coleen’s favour, and left Rebekah liable to pay £1.5 million towards Coleen’s legal fees.

Coleen spoke out about the three year ordeal on the Stick To Football podcast by SkyBet and admitted it caused her family life and marriage to husband Wayne to become ‘strained’.
She said: ‘It was the lowest I’d say I’ve ever been. I had no control over it and that was hard.
‘I knew what I was saying was right, but the fact that someone else took me to court and I had to prove it and say it was what it was was tough.
‘It was a long period of time and I couldn’t get away from it. Every day, I’d wake up and think ‘Coleen, just get on with your day’, but it kept creeping back in all the time.’
Coleen went on to say she would become ‘snappy’ and dread Fridays because she would have to face lengthy phone calls with lawyers.
She added: ‘I felt like I wasn’t myself, I was snappy, and every Friday the lawyers rang me – the other team try and ruin your weekend by calling at the last point on Friday.
‘They’d tell me what’s going on and then to try and have a nice weekend. I’d go away and start overthinking things, and start looking for things that he’s asking for.
‘It got to 2am, Wayne would be waiting on the couch to watch something and eventually say ‘I’m going to bed’.
‘It put a strain on family life, friends. I wasn’t sociable and it stripped me.’
