Denise Welch shared her brutally honest views on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry during an appearance on US talk show Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen this week.

The 67-year-old mother of The 1975 frontman Matty Healy joined the programme to discuss her son and his former relationship with Taylor Swift.

However, it was her thoughts on the Sussexes that drew the most attention.

During the chat with host Andy Cohen, a viewer named Jasmine asked for insight into how the British public currently feels about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Denise Welch defends Meghan Markle on US TV: ‘Every single day she is battered’

In response, Welch glanced at the studio audience before launching into a passionate defence of the couple, who are parents to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The Loose Women panellist said: “Well, I have a very different view from a lot of people, and I express this on the show I do at home called Loose Women.

“I am like the only person who flies the Harry and Meghan flag, even though I don’t know them.

“I’ve met a few of the royals over the years, but I have never met them.

Andy Cohen was left speechless after Denise Welch’s rant

“But I just think the amount of bullying by the press, British and American, that that woman gets… Remember, she was in those rooms, a lot of them, as a young black American woman.

“She had a big voice in UNICEF and the United Nations. She was in a lot of those rooms before Harry and I just try to fly the flag a bit.

“You have to remember, this is a boy who was forced at 12 years old to walk behind his mother’s coffin.

“His dad had been unfaithful, and he grew up in that world. And I think, for him to want to say his piece is something quite admirable.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle met in 2016

“I think they are in love. He’s never been unfaithful to her… The abuse she got for saying she is mentally ill… I suffered severe postnatal depression and was hospitalised when I had Matthew.

“So I really empathise with someone who is open about that.

“And she got ridiculed and hated. And what has she really done? And every single day she is battered.”

Her impassioned speech was met with applause from the audience, as Andy praised her with: “Good answer.”
