EU flags outnumbered Union Jacks at the Last Night of the Proms on Saturday in a major Brussels love-in.

As the annual classical music festival drew to a close, the blue and yellow starred flags were seen flying in the crowd at the Royal Albert Hall.

During performances of Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory and more, the Brussels bloc’s banner visibly outnumbered that of the United Kingdom’s.

Just like in 2024, overhead shots of the audience down in the arena showed attendees wearing EU berets.

Others were seen sporting “Thank EU for the Music” t-shirts, showing support for the campaign group which hands out flags to combat “jingoistic celebrations of Brexit”.

In an open letter to Sir Keir Starmer, the group hailed how the flags “drowned out the politics of division” and were “symbols of solidarity”.

“Tonight, during the Last Night of the Proms, the Royal Albert Hall is a sea of blue and gold flags, flying alongside our British flag,” campaigners crowed.

“That is the patriotism of integrity and hope,” they continued. “That is Britain at its best.”

“Yet, your proclamation as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom that you are ‘governing for all’, is now twisting into chasing Reform voters’ approval with anti-immigrant narratives.”

They then turned their fire on Reform UK boss Nigel Farage – and hundreds of thousands of Britons on the streets of London for Tommy Robinson’s “Unite the Kingdom” rally.

“Let’s be crystal clear: pandering to Nigel Farage is not ‘governing for all’. It is lowering the bar of leadership to meet the standards of a discourse that thrives on hate and division, and whose extremist supporters today have threatened havoc and fear in central London.”

The PM was urged to “lead the Brexit-rejecting British electorate back to Europe, or else keep flirting with Farage’s fascists” at the letter’s end.

Campaigners continued: “Tonight, the Royal Albert Hall shows that the country is ready to be led away from Brexit’s gruesomely misnamed ‘sunny uplands’, towards higher, more hopeful political ground. The real question is: are you?”

Thank EU for the Music attacked supporters of Tommy Robinson – hundreds of thousands turned out in London hours before the Proms concluded

Vocal Remain-backer Anna Soubry, who defected from the Tories to join the now-defunct Change UK, said on social media: “Love all the flag waving at the Last Night of the Proms. Long may it continue!”

Labour Senedd Member Alun Davies added: “Always good to see a sea of EU flags at the Last Night of the Proms..!”

Another campaign group, EU Flag Mafia, also attacked those at Tommy Robinson’s event.

“As the knuckle draggers leave London, EU Flags Team and EU Flag Mafia are giving out 10,000 EU flags for the Last Might of the Proms in support of gigging British musicians,” it said. “Little Tommy nowhere to be seen.”
