As we age, the skin naturally shifts in thickness and texture due to genetics, but external factors can exacerbate these changes.

Thankfully, professionals in the beauty industry can offer a wealth of advice to counter these problems, with many encouraging a simple approach.

A dermatologist PA who goes by Doona on TikTok recently opened up about her favourite “hair growth essentials to maintain a thick braid”.

“I’ve noticed more hair loss as I’ve gotten older,“ she wrote in the caption of a clip, showing followers the exact steps she follows to keep her braids thick.

Her routine comprises several key products and techniques that specifically target growth and scalp health.

“I use a dermaroller about two to three times a week,” she explained. “Always sanitise with alcohol before and after use.

“I focus on areas where I have hair thinning, rolling five times in one direction and five times in the other direction, which stimulates hair growth by stimulating blood circulation.”

She focuses particularly on spots where she’s noticed thinning, making sure to give those areas extra attention during her routine.

Doona noted the importance of focusing mainly on spots where thinning is most apparent, making sure to give the areas extra attention.

“It also increases product absorption when you apply hair serums afterwards,” she noted.

Instead of minoxidil, the derm uses a Seapuri Hair Amploule, which contains three hair loss-alleviating ingredients; namely salicylic acid, dexpanthenol and menthol. This comes with a three-pronged massage roller that makes application a breeze.

“This is my second bottle and I focus this on areas where I am getting thinning, which is my temple area,” Doona explained.

“I like this because it does not leave a sticky feeling in my hair, and it actually has a very nice cooling effect.”

When it comes to shampoo, the content creator is a firm believer in using anti-dandruff formulas, even for people who don’t have it.

When it comes to shampoo, she’s a big believer in anti-dandruff formulas – even for people who don’t have dandruff.

She explained that these shampoos help create the ideal environment for hair growth by keeping the scalp healthy.

“Even if you don’t have dandruff, using an anti-dandruff shampoo can give you a healthy scalp,” she explained.

“And a healthy scalp means healthy hair. A healthy scalp environment boosts hair growth, actually.”

The last ingredient in Doona’s hair care arsenal is a scalp serum containing hyaluronic and glycolic acid, which she applies after washing.

The final step locks in moisture and maintains the benefits of her entire routine, ensuring the scalp stays in top condition for optimal health.
