The actor DeRon Horton revealed that he had been shot just a few days before Christmas in a shocking Instagram post from Thursday.
The 32-year-old actor, who is best known for stints on Netflix’s Dear White People and American Horror Story: 1984, shared a photo of himself in a hospital bed as he recovered from a gunshot wound to his right arm.
In his caption, he mentioned that he was lucky to have only been hit in the arm, as he easily could have been killed or ‘paralyzed’ if the bullet had traveled a few inches to the side.
DailyMail.com has reached out to Horton’s representative for comment.
DeRon received plenty of well wishes in the comments, including from fellow stars Samuel L. Jackson and Issa Rae.
‘Gettin shot a few days before Xmas def wasn’t on my wish list,’ he joked in his caption.
Dear White People actor DeRon Horton, 32, revealed Thursday that he had been shot in the arm just days before Christmas. He shared a photo of himself in a hospital bed on Instagram
The television star said that some had ‘shot thru the car’ at him, though he didn’t clarify if he was being targeted or if he was merely the victim of a random shooting.
He added that the ‘bullet broke [his] arm’ and ‘shattered’ the bones at the wound site.
But Horton tried to keep things in perspective and focused on how much worse it could have been under slightly different circumstances.
‘I’m Blessed dawg to not be in a casket or paralyzed Lord Thank You,’ he wrote.
He added that he had been discharged from the hospital and was ‘now healing.’
DeRon wasn’t as happy about having to live with a plate and screws in his arm to help the bones regrow properly, as it prevented him from being able to ‘workout for a minute.’
‘BUT it coulda been worse!’ he admitted.
Horton seemed to be on the upswing, as he said he wasn’t looking for sympathy because he expected to ‘bounce right back,’ declaring: ‘I feel amazing.’

The actor concluded by reminding his fans — and himself — to ‘Keep God first!’
‘Stay Alert n Grateful for Everything. the devil can’t stop s*** when you walk w God,’ he warned.
Included in his post was a photo of the inside of his right arm, which had been thoroughly cleaned at the point.
It had a long incision mark running two-thirds of the way from his wrist to the crook of his arm. It was held together with black stitches, as well as thin strips of tape.
The slit wasn’t from the initial gunshot wound, but from the subsequent surgery to repair the damage and pin the shattered bone back together.

Samuel L. Jackson, who worked with Horton on The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, shared well wishes with the junior actor.
‘Glad you’re still with us, Tuff Stuff!!!’ he wrote. ‘Good thing you’re covered by the All mighty. Hoping you heal quickly & painlessly as possible. Stay Blessed.’
Insecure co-creator and star Issa Rae added: ‘So glad you’re okay.’
