Dannii Minogue has revealed just how important starring as the host of a gay dating series has been to her.
The singer, who fronts I Kissed A Boy and the spin-off I Kissed A Girl, tells Stellar Magazine that she’s personally seen the impact the show has.
‘Calls and messages have flooded in from friends of mine that relate to stories and conversations,’ the 53-year-old said.
‘I’ve had a lifetime of amazing friendships with people in the LGBTQIA+ community and have been able to be an ally both personally and professionally, and I hope that with more representation on TV, life will be easier to navigate for the next generation.
‘Both my friends and our casts tell me the same thing after watching the show: ‘My life would have been so different if I had a TV show like this when I was growing up.’
Earlier this year, the star fought back tears of pride as she launched gay dating show I Kissed A Girl and claimed that she ‘identifies as queer’.

Returning to screens this May, I Kissed A Girl sees ten single women live together in a luxury Italian house in the hope of sparking a romance.
The 10-episode series follows on from the gay male version of the show I Kissed A Boy last May and Dannii expressed how it was ‘surreal’ that there hadn’t been a show for lesbian and bisexual women until now.
Speaking at the series launch, she said: ‘This is so important. There hasn’t been a show for the girls in the reality gay dating world. It’s like we need this to happen. I’m hoping that there are parties up and down the country.’
The presenter also revealed she identifies as queer herself after the girls in the series made it clear they fancy the Australian in the first episode.
She declared: ‘I identify as queer in a weird way.’
As one contestant, Amy from Surrey, commented that Dannii is ‘just my type’, Danni was asked if she is too attracted to women.
Laughing in the episode, Dannii replied: ‘You girls are hot. You know it. I love it. I’m here for it. Is that an answer?’
Dannii, who previously revealed she lost a handful of fans after she began hosting I Kissed A Boy, said she would love the series to win more awards.

‘I want this to go well, obviously. Everybody’s put everything on the line. I hope there are more series of this show, and more girls get the opportunity to have this experience.’
Holding back tears, she added: ‘You girls are so brave and amazing and have brought so much to it. I could never do what you have done.
‘I will always be in awe of what has happened and what we’ve created. I feel so proud. You’re stepping forward, and you’re the first crew of girls representing in this space, and it is big.’
Dannii and her sister Kylie Minogue are two of Australia’s most iconic pop stars, and share similar career trajectories.
Both got their start on a long-running Australian soap opera – Kylie on Neighbours and Dannii on Home and Away – and went on to launch a music career, selling millions of albums in the process.
The sisters have always enjoyed a close relationship, with Dannii revealing she’s always looked to Kylie for guidance during a 2017 interview with 9Honey.
‘My sister’s always been incredible,’ Dannii told the publication at the time.
‘She’s always a tower of strength, and very classy with how she handles everything.
‘My sister is my go-to for advice. And always when I look at her, she’s physically a tiny little thing, and you just think, ‘Where does all this strength come from?”
Dannii welcomed son Ethan, now 13, with former rugby league player Kris Smith back in 2010.
The pair dated 2008 to 2012 after meeting in Ibiza while he was celebrating his 30th birthday.
The singer and her current boyfriend Adrian Newman famously keep their romance under wraps and rarely speak about each other publicly.
Earlier this year, Dannii gave a rare insight into their low-key romance and opened up on the prospect of marriage.
Of keeping their relationship out of the limelight, she told Hello: ‘I haven’t always been able to do it that way before because if the other person is already famous, then what can you do? He works behind the scenes, so it’s easy.’
