Motorists on the M61 in Greater Manchester should expect major delays following a crash, National Highways has said.
It said the motorway has been closed between J4 and J2 (M60/ A666) southbound near Bolton, with diversions in place and emergency services on the scene.
The closure is causing delays of “at least 70 minutes” following the “multi vehicle collision” earlier, National Highways said on X.
A spokesperson added: “There is a large amount of fuel/oil and debris across the carriageway.
“If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.
“Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
