Cleveland Police Chief Constable Victoria Fuller has issued an update on the horror A66 car crash that killed seven, including two police officers.
Addressing reporters, she confirmed the names of the two officers who had died as PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough.
The officers and five members of the public died during the collision between a marked police car and a Volkswagen going the wrong way on the A66 near Middlesbrough this morning.
“This is an incredibly sad day for Cleveland,” Chief Constable Victoria Fuller said.
“The loss has been felt across our communities, by our police family and by our partner agencies.”
She described PC Blades and PC Clough as “Brave officers protecting our communities and serving our residents who didn’t return home to their families at the end of their shift”.
