Chelsea player ratings: Lukaku makes impression; Azpilicueta struggles

Romelu Lukaku’s brace had put the Blues two-goals up, and seemingly in control, before Trincao halved the deficit in superb fashion with ten minutes remaining.

Coady then rose in the dying seconds to head Wolves level, leaving Chelsea frustrated with Todd Boehly watching on in the stands.

James Robson was at Stamford Bridge to rate the Chelsea players…

Edouard Mendy 7

Prodced impressive saves to deny Neto in the first half and then Hee-Chan in the second.

Cesar Azpilicueta 5

His form has suffered pretty much since his contract extension was triggered. It has been a tough few weeks for him.

Thiago Silva 6

Commanding at the back and a real threat in the air from an attacking sense. Seriously stretched as Wolves mounted a late fightback.

Toni Rudiger 6

Bossed things for most of the game, but backed off too much as Trincao advanced before his brilliant finish from distance.

Reece James 7

Kept powering down the wing. His service could have been better – but close to finding the back of the net with a free kick.

Mateo Kovacic 6

Worked hard in midfield to put some drive into Chelsea. Used the ball well to spread the play.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek 6

Injected pace in the team with some of his bursts. Happy to pick the ball up in deep areas and build the play.

Marcos Alonso 5

Got into positions to threaten without producing the necessary quality. Did not emerge after half-time.

Christian Pulisic 6

Bright at the start as Chelsea struggled to find space. His perfectly-weighted through-ball set up Lukaku’s second.

Romelu Lukaku 8

What a way to make an impression on the new boss. Won and converted the penalty to open the scoring and then fired a second. Chelsea’s leading scorer, despite limited action.

Timo Werner 7

The sharpest of Chelsea’s forwards for a lot of the match – twice forcing Sa to make good saves. Got in good positions to hurt Wolves and seemed to benefit from Lukaku’s presence.

Saul Niguez (Alonso, 46) 6

Improved Chelsea on the left after replacing Alonso at half-time. Worked hard as Wolves pushed lat on.

Malang Sarr (Azpilicueta, 86)

Brought on to try to see out the win.

Kai Havertz (Lukaku, 90)

Subs: Arrizabalaga, Christensen, Chalobah, Barkley, Mount, Ziyech
