Isle of Mull Cheese has issued a recall for its Hebridean Blue Cheese after tests revealed contamination with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC).
The affected product includes all pack sizes with the batch code 8051224 and a best before date of April 10, 2025.
Food safety officials have confirmed the recall is necessary due to the potential health risks associated with STEC.
The cheese is being removed from shelves across all retail stores where it was sold.

Customers are being advised to check their refrigerators for the affected product.
STEC infections can cause several serious health issues for consumers who may have purchased the contaminated cheese.
“Symptoms can include diarrhoea, abdominal pain, bloody diarrhoea, and haemolytic uraemic syndrome, a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal,” warned the FSA.
In more severe cases, the infection can lead to haemolytic uraemic syndrome, a serious condition that affects the kidneys.
This syndrome can potentially lead to kidney failure and may even be fatal in some cases.
The severity of these potential health risks has prompted the swift recall action.
Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, pregnant women and those with compromised immune systems may be at higher risk of complications.

The Food Standards Agency is monitoring the situation closely. Health officials recommend seeking medical attention if consumers experience any symptoms after consuming the product.
Isle of Mull Cheese has taken immediate action by displaying point of sale notices in all retail stores selling the affected product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and provide instructions on what to do.
Consumers who have purchased the Hebridean Blue Cheese with the affected batch code are strongly advised not to eat it.
Instead, they should return the product to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.
