A teenage driver has had a miraculous escape after a very serious crash in north-western Sydney on Tuesday night.
The 18-year-old male crashed on Old Northern Road, Baulkham Hills at about 7.15pm, in a collision so severe that one vehicle was completely cut in half, with the back end left down the side of a house.
Incredibly, the driver of the 2004 Mazda walked away from the scene.
But his luck ran out when he was arrested after returning a positive roadside breath test.
The teenager was taken to Castle Hill Police Station by Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers, where he returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.110.
His driver’s licence was immediately suspended and he was charged with mid-range drink driving.
The 45-year-old driver of the other vehicle was taken to a hospital for tests.
The police have used the incident to renew its community safety message on the dangers of drink driving and speeding.

‘While the cause of this particular incident is still under investigation, alcohol and speed appear to be the main factors,’ a NSW Police spokesperson said.
‘It’s important to remember that drink driving and speeding are leading causes of road accidents and fatalities.
‘Remember, your choices on the road can have life-altering consequences. Stay safe and drive responsibly.’
The police have urged anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV of the incident to contact The Hills Highway Patrol.
The teenager is due to appear in Parramatta Local Court on December 11.
