Canva businesses and influencers reported the app and website went down Wednesday morning, leaving them unable to download their creations.
Downdetector, which tracks app and website outages, reported that more than 2,400 users were complaining about issues with the app since just before 10:00am ET.
The outage spread across the US, affecting customers in major cities like New York, Houston, Atlanta and Chicago.
Many people complained they received an error 505 message when they tried to use the platform or couldn’t save their creations.
‘Not working… I have a presentation in an hour with a slide deck I created in there. OMG HELP CANVA PLEASE,’ one person wrote on Downdetector.
The online design platform allows users to create visual content including posters, slideshows, images and infographics for free or under a variety of plans.
Canva experienced an outage impacting thousands of customers on Wednesday morning
Canva acknowledged the outage on X, saying it was ‘aware some people are having trouble accessing Canva,’ but that the site would be up and running soon.
The company said it’s platform was back up and running shortly after 10am ET, writing on X that ‘everything should be working as expected.
‘We’re keeping a close eye on things and really appreciate your patience while we got everything back on track.’
However, within an hour of the announcement, users were still reporting that they had no access to their designs.
‘Can’t download creations. Progress bar moves til the end and then nothing happens,’ one person complained on Downdetector.
Another person responded, saying they experienced the same issue and that the platform hasn’t let them ‘download my designs for two straight days,’ adding: ‘I’ve read on thread that this may take one week.’
The number of GIFS and memes on X exploded as people vented their anger and frustration that Canva was down while they were in the midst of creating content at work.
‘Our social media team right now because is down,’ a family law company wrote alongside a GIF of a man crying.
Meanwhile, another person wrote: ‘Okay, so Canva being down right when I’m in the middle of doing coursework is not the sign I asked for today.’
The status was posted a photo of influencer and model Kim Kardashian with the subtext: ‘It seems like nobody wants to work these days.’
