Brooke Shields revealed that sex for her is ‘painful’ after menopause due to a diminishing drive and vaginal dryness as well as the vaginal rejuvenation procedure she didn’t consent to years ago while undergoing a labia reduction.
‘On a personal level, I’m in a place where sex can be painful,’ the 59-year-old former child star wrote in chapter 10 of her newly-released book Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old.
‘For me to fully enjoy sex at this point, I need my lotions and potions, the right sleepwear (maybe calling it sleepwear is contributing to the problem), my special pillow, and maybe a tequila so I can relax.’
Brooke continued: ‘My doctor told me I should start taking testosterone — sure you might get a few more whiskers, but that’s what tweezers are for — but I haven’t gotten there yet. For now, I’m counting on the old “the more you have it, the more you’ll enjoy it” approach.’
Shields recalls having a ‘fervent sex drive’ after losing her virginity, at age 22, to her Princeton University boyfriend, but she still felt inhibited.

‘I never felt like I could step into that appetite in the way that I wanted to,’ the empty nester recalled.
‘I waited that long [to have sex] because I had the weight of the world on me. And even once we started sleeping together, I never really let loose. Oh, how I wish I’d just let the lust take over!’
Brooke originally met her second husband Chris Henchy in 1999 on the Warner Bros lot, and they celebrated 23 years of wedded bliss last April.
‘And now here I am, more than 35 years later, sometimes pretending I’m asleep when I know Chris is in the mood. And that has nothing to do with Chris — he’s hot!’ Shields admitted.
‘I’m going through all the bodily s*** that comes with aging as a woman even in the best of times — the thinning hair and the peach fuzz and the brand-new belly fat and vaginal dryness and the diminishing sex drive — and in my natural state I feel less appealing to him than I ever did before.’
The native New Yorker and the 60-year-old retired movie producer are proud parents of two daughters – Grier, 18; and Rowan, 21 – who are both enrolled at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC.
Brooke co-authored her 256-page, sixth literary effort with Rachel Bertsche, and she kicks off her seven-date book tour at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre in Manhattan on Tuesday night.
Shields will next executive produce and star as intrusive gynecologist Dr. Wright in Arnon Manor and Kelsey Bascom’s upcoming diabetes coming-of-age comedy Quarter alongside her BFF Ali Wentworth, Raven-Symoné, Eric Roberts, and Breckin Meyer.
