The New York Yankees have made their decision on the fate of manager Aaron Boone following the team’s World Series implosion.
The Yankees suffered humiliation in the World Series at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 1-4 series defeat, sealed by a number of blunders in Game 5.
Despite title 28 evading the Pinstripes, the franchise announced that Boone would be extending his stay in the Bronx.
The Yankees confirmed Friday morning that they had exercised their 2025 club option for the manager.
Boone, who first took charge of the decorated franchise in 2018, signed a three-year contract extension in 2021, which included the team option for 2025.

The team has now opted to pick up the option, bringing back Boone for the upcoming campaign.
‘I am grateful for the trust placed in me to lead this team. It’s a responsibility – and an opportunity – that I will never take lightly,’ Boone said in a statement released by the Yankees.
‘It’s a great privilege to show up for work every day and be surrounded by so many determined and talented players, coaches and staff members. Starting with Steinbrenner family, there is a collective commitment to excellence within this organization that is embedded in all that we do.
‘I’m already looking forward to reporting for spring training in Tampa and working tirelessly to return the Yankees to the postseason to compete for a World Championship.’
During his seven years as manager in New York, Boone has a 603-429 record, reaching the playoffs in all but one season.
General manager Brian Cashman had hinted earlier in the week that the team was leaning towards bringing the manager back for the 2025 season and possibly even beyond.
‘The manager’s job is so impossible, so you can play the game of second-guessing because you’re either going to make a move and it’ll be right, you make a move and it’ll be wrong and then have at it, right? So I think he’s a really, really good manager. I think that we’re lucky to have him. He’s done a great job,’ Cashman said of Boone. Tuesday.
After a disappointing 2023 season that saw New York finish with its worst winning percentage since 1992 and fail to make the postseason, the Bronx Bombers rebounded to reach the world series for the first time in 15 years.
However, despite Boone and the Yankees’ comeback, and Cashman’s apparent confidence in the manager, fans were left fuming over the decision on social media.
‘Another year of not winning a WS lmfao you’re a joke,’ one fan replied to the team’s announcement on X, formerly known as Twitter.
‘So another year of lack of Hussle, bad base running and sloppy defense. Sounds like the Yankee way,’ another moaned.
‘2025 post season disaster loading…,’ a third predicted, while one questioned: ‘We’re really taking L’s during the off-season??’

One supporter slammed the team and owner Hal Steinbrenner, posting: ‘Looser mentality continues.!! Bravo Hal and Cashman..!!’
Yet, despite the fanbase’s criticism, one of Boone’s greatest successes has been achieving the respect and the backing of his players – most notably captain Aaron Judge.
‘He’s always had our back,’ Judge said at the end of the season. ‘He’s always been there for us, always put us in the best positions day in and day out. He’s a guy that every single person in this room will run through a wall for. The culture we have here — it’s something special, and it starts with him at the top.
‘Being in this position, we wouldn’t have the players we brought in fit so well if it wasn’t for a manager like him to really bring all of us together.’
