Aldi is set to open 21 stores later this year as part of efforts to “meet demand”, the supermarket giant has confirmed after posting its latest financial results.
The German discount chain has revealed its largest-ever UK expansion programme, committing £1.6billion in capital expenditure across 2026 and 2027.
This investment will fund 80 additional outlets as the retailer responds to heightened consumer demand for budget-friendly shopping options.
The grocer declared itself “more determined than ever” to serve British households seeking to manage tighter budgets. Annual revenues climbed to £18.1billion for the year ending December 2024, up from £17.9billion previously.

Consumer watchdog Which? has named the retailer Britain’s most affordable supermarket for the fourth year running, maintaining this distinction even when rival loyalty programmes are factored in.
“Nobody else is making the same commitment to everyday low prices no clubs, no gimmicks, no tricks – just prices our customers can trust and quality they can depend on,” stated Giles Hurley, the chief executive Officer for Aldi UK and Ireland.
“Shoppers are still finding things difficult and that’s why we’re staying laser focused on doing what Aldi does best – offering customers great quality products at unbeatable prices.

“Since we opened our first UK store over 35 years ago, we’ve brought high-quality, affordable groceries to almost 800 towns and cities, but there are hundreds more communities that don’t have an Aldi nearby.”
Operating margins contracted to 2.4 per cent as the business prioritised customer savings, infrastructure development and workforce compensation over profitability.
Some 21 outlets will launch within the coming 13 weeks, spanning locations from Shoreditch in the capital to Durham in England’s northeast and Kirkintilloch north of the border.
The company has identified 20 additional priority areas for development, encompassing Bromley and Ealing in Greater London, South Shields in Tyne and Wear, and Witney in Oxfordshire.

Recent market data reveals the chain’s sales growth accelerated to 4.8 per cent in early 2025, pushing its market share to 10.8 per cent.
Furthermore, the retailer has surpassed Asda to claim third position among UK grocers by food and beverage sales value.
Approximately 70 per cent of British households now purchase from the discount chain as the business’s market share grows.
As well as this, the business allocated £14billion to British suppliers throughout 2024, citing its commitment to domestic partnerships.
