Greener EalingA man has appeared in court charged with murder after a triple stabbing in west London.
Safi Dawood, an Afghan national, appeared before Westminster magistrates to face a murder charge and two counts of attempted murder after Wayne Broadhurst, 49, was killed and two others were injured in the attack in Midhurst Gardens, Uxbridge, on Monday.
The 22-year-old, of the same street, has also been charged with one count of possessing an offensive weapon following the incident, the court was told on Thursday.
Mr Dawood was remanded in custody and will appear at the Old Bailey within the next 48 hours.
Officers and paramedics were called to reports of a triple stabbing at about 17:00 GMT.
Mr Broadhurst, who had been walking his dog at the time, was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.
A 14-year-old boy and a 45-year-old man were also treated for stab wounds.
The man remains in hospital with life-changing injuries and the teenager has been discharged, prosecutor Theo Woodhead told the court.
Mr Dawood was not known to Mr Broadhurst but was known to the other two alleged victims, police have said.
He entered the UK in a lorry in 2020 before claiming asylum, which was granted in 2022, the Home Office previously confirmed.
‘Devastating loss’
On Wednesday, Katarina Pohancenikova, managing director of Greener Ealing Ltd, confirmed that Mr Broadhurst was a binman at the council-owned firm but he was not on duty when he died.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Wayne’s family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time,” she said.
“This is a devastating loss. Wayne was a well-respected and dedicated member of our team who made a real contribution to the work we do and to the residents we serve.”
